Tim Hortons, American Express partner to offer new payment option in Canada

RBR Staff Writer Published 10 July 2013

Tim Hortons, a Canadian fast casual restaurant chain, has collaborated with financial services company American Express Canada to offer a new payment option to customers across the country.

Under this partnership, Tim Hortons will accept payments through American Express Card at majority of chain's stores in the country. Customers can also reload their Tim Hortons Card online with American Express Card.

The agreement with Tim Hortons allows American Express, which operates as Amex Bank of Canada and Amex Canada in the country, to expand its reach into everyday spend category of quick service restaurants.

American Express Canada merchant services vice president and general manager Jennifer Hawkins said that the company is excited to share the latest alliance news with its cardmembers.

"We know that our Cardmembers want to use their Amex, not just for big ticket items but for everyday purchases like filling up their car, shopping at the pharmacy or grocery store and picking up a coffee and Panini at Tim Hortons," added Hawkins.

Tim Hortons Canada president Roland Walton said: "We are very happy to welcome American Express to Tim Hortons, bringing even greater payment convenience to our consumer and business guests alike."

As of December 2012, Tim Hortons had 4,264 system-wide restaurants, including 3,436 in Canada, 804 in the US and 24 in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
