McDonald's likely to phase out Ronald as its mascot
McDonald's, the US-based fast food retail chain, is likely to phase out its mascot Ronald McDonald as the chain tries to focus on salads and other health foods rather than on fast food.
The company is trying to push for the healthy consumer dollar and introducing more smoothies and lattes instead of fries and burgers, media reports said.
Ronald McDonald has been the face of the 'Golden Arches' since nearly 1963.
The reports also quoted a company spokesman who said Ronald is now more an ambassador than a mascot.
The move was made because McDonald's is shifting its focus from Happy Meals for kids to hamburgers, salads and coffee, food that would appeal to older clientele.
The food retailer has also recently replaced the mascot with pop singers in its advertisements as well.
Meanwhile, it has also revamped its milkshake McCafe Shake with three new flavors and brought back the Shamrock Shake, a mint-flavored milkshake sold as a seasonal dessert at the fast food outlets in March to celebrate St Patrick's Day.
