India-based Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) plans to unveil 70 new outlets across the country by the end of the fiscal year 2013.

The move is part of the chain's strategy to expand the brand's presence across the country and is aimed at outpacing the competition in the rapidly growing sector.

Cafe Coffee Day, which operates in three formats: cafes, lounges, and kiosks, said that the proposed outlets will be opened in both big and small towns.

CCD director Venu Madhav told The Economic Times that the company presently has 1,547 stores across 200 cities and plans to add 60-70 stores in the next four-five months.

"The retail sector in particular is going through tough times now, because the cost is going up, the consumer discretionary spend is coming down. But there is a lot of latent demand, so all of us are going ahead with our expansion plan," Madhav added.

The retailer is also seeking to further accelerate its expansion plans in the near future. It directly competes with the likes of Starbucks, Barista Lavazza chain, and Costa Coffee.
